We are seeking a Design & Release Engineer (DRE) to lead the development of exterior components and systems from initial concept through full production launch. This role is responsible for owning assigned parts/systems, ensuring successful delivery across cost, quality, timing, and performance targets.


This is not a CAD design role. The DRE will act as the technical owner of the system, working cross-functionally with design, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to bring components from concept to production.


Key Responsibilities

  • Own assigned components/systems from concept through production launch
  • Manage and maintain BOM, cost targets, quality, and engineering changes
  • Provide feasibility input on early design concepts (sketches, clay models, etc.)
  • Establish and manage project timelines across the full development lifecycle
  • Develop and maintain:
  • Functional objectives
  • Build objectives
  • DVPR (Design Verification Plan & Report)
  • DFMEA (Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis)
  • Lead design direction while coordinating with internal CAD teams and external design resources
  • Release production-ready geometry using CAD/data management systems
  • Support virtual validation (CAE) and physical validation (component, system, and vehicle testing)
  • Plan and oversee tooling development and component production
  • Support pilot builds and production launch activities at assembly plants
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for:
  • Fit/finish issues
  • Assembly concerns
  • Functional performance problems
  • Analyze warranty data and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities for production systems
  • Ensure completion of required documentation, including safety compliance reports
  • Lead cross-functional teams to drive issue resolution and meet program milestones


Required Experience

  • 2-3+ years of engineering experience (automotive preferred)
  • Experience with exterior or interior automotive systems strongly preferred
  • Plastics experience highly preferred


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred
  • In lieu of degree, must have 5+ years of relevant experience


Required Skills

  • Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint (critical); Word required
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate internal/proprietary systems
  • Experience working in a fast-paced engineering environment
