We are seeking a Design & Release Engineer (DRE) to lead the development of exterior components and systems from initial concept through full production launch. This role is responsible for owning assigned parts/systems, ensuring successful delivery across cost, quality, timing, and performance targets.
This is not a CAD design role. The DRE will act as the technical owner of the system, working cross-functionally with design, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to bring components from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Own assigned components/systems from concept through production launch
- Manage and maintain BOM, cost targets, quality, and engineering changes
- Provide feasibility input on early design concepts (sketches, clay models, etc.)
- Establish and manage project timelines across the full development lifecycle
- Develop and maintain:
- Functional objectives
- Build objectives
- DVPR (Design Verification Plan & Report)
- DFMEA (Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis)
- Lead design direction while coordinating with internal CAD teams and external design resources
- Release production-ready geometry using CAD/data management systems
- Support virtual validation (CAE) and physical validation (component, system, and vehicle testing)
- Plan and oversee tooling development and component production
- Support pilot builds and production launch activities at assembly plants
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for:
- Fit/finish issues
- Assembly concerns
- Functional performance problems
- Analyze warranty data and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Identify cost reduction opportunities for production systems
- Ensure completion of required documentation, including safety compliance reports
- Lead cross-functional teams to drive issue resolution and meet program milestones
Required Experience
- 2-3+ years of engineering experience (automotive preferred)
- Experience with exterior or interior automotive systems strongly preferred
- Plastics experience highly preferred
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred
- In lieu of degree, must have 5+ years of relevant experience
